Mechanical Engineering Students: Expanding Learning from Classroom to Warehouse

April 25, 2024

A group of 44 students and three faculty members from the Mechanical Engineering Department of Mariano Marcos State University in Ilocos Norte embarked on an educational tour to the Maynilad Central Depot in Socea Bonna, Novaliches last April 24, 2024.

The visit aimed to give the students a practical understanding of the importance of warehousing in water utilities. A staff member from Maynilad guided the group and explained the various components within the warehouse.

Warehousing is crucial in water utilities. It serves as the backbone for efficient supply chain management. It acts as a buffer, ensuring a steady supply of materials and equipment necessary for the smooth operation of water utilities.

The students were introduced to the advanced building systems within the warehouse. The visit highlighted the importance of material handling, a critical process that involves the movement, protection, storage, and control of materials and products throughout the supply chain.

The tour also emphasized the significance of precise inventory management. Warehouse management software helps deliver the right product at the right time, reducing tensions with suppliers and end users.

This educational visit gave the students a real-world perspective on the theoretical concepts they learned in the classroom. It underscored the importance of warehousing in mechanical engineering, particularly in the context of water utilities.

The students and faculty members from Mariano Marcos State University expressed their gratitude to the Maynilad team for the insightful and informative tour. They look forward to applying the knowledge gained from this visit in their future endeavors in mechanical engineering.
