Empowering Women for Water – A Step Towards Addressing Water Challenges

April 22, 2024

On March 26, 2024, the Maynilad Water Academy and Maynilad’s Government Relations Office, in partnership with the Climate Change Department of Quezon City local government, organized an event called “Empowering Change: Women for Water” at the La Mesa Water Treatment Facility. The event was held in honor of Women’s Month and World Water Day with the primary goal of raising awareness about the ongoing water challenges and highlighting the crucial role that women can play in the water sector.

The event was attended by 25 Sanguniang Kabataan (SK) Chairwomen, each representing different barangays in Quezon City. Speakers were professionals from diverse backgrounds, such as Water Source Operations, Program Management, and Technical Resource Management, who addressed the challenges of climate change on water resources. They shared their experiences working in the predominantly male field of water utilities and how they leveraged their unique perspectives and skills as women to bring about positive changes in their respective areas.

The attendees had a tour of the La Mesa Water Treatment Facility 2, which allowed them to gain a first-hand experience of the operations and processes involved in water treatment. The event aimed to empower women to understand and tackle water-related issues and encourage them to play an active role in bringing about positive change in their communities.

This initiative is a testament to the power of knowledge and the potential of women to drive change, especially in sectors where they have been traditionally underrepresented. It is a step forward in our collective fight against the water challenges and our journey towards a more equitable society. The gathering was to shed light on the ongoing water challenges and to highlight the crucial role women can play in the water sector.
