Researchers and graduate students from De La Salle University (DLSU) Manila’s College of Engineering visited the Maynilad Water Reclamation Facility in Bahay Toro on June 27, 2024. The facility features a state-of-the-art Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) with a sewerage system combined capacity of 13,400 cubic meters per day (CMD). The site visit allowed the team to observe practical applications of their academic studies, enriching their understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes. They toured the facility, learning about the MBBR technology and its role in the treatment process. They engaged in a fruitful discussion with the Maynilad engineers, who shared their operational challenges and solutions, enriching the student’s learning experience.
This visit is part of DLSU’s initiative to bridge the gap between theoretical research and real-world applications by fostering collaborations with industry leaders like Maynilad. The experience aims to enhance the practical skills and knowledge of engineering students. The insights gained will contribute to ongoing research projects focused on improving water and wastewater treatment methodologies, highlighting the importance of integrating academic research with industry experience to drive innovation and address water management challenges in the Philippines.
